Lois sat on her couch in their home. Her eyes were red and puffy, tracks of tears ran down her face as they had done all week. She didn't know how to face life without her soulmate. One thought ran through her mind: how can I go on without him?

Her thought was momentarily interrupted when there was a knock at the door; it was Jimmy. He'd been so worried about her since the day Clark's body had been found. By all accounts, Clark's death was just a random act of violence in the days that followed Superman's second departure for New Krypton. Only Lois, and the Kents, knew the truth.

After Jimmy left Lois went back to the couch. "Lane, stop this," she said to herself. "I have to find a way to go on. He wouldn't want me to sit here and cry enough to flood Metropolis." Just as she finished that sentence, a song, the song that played the night before Clark left, was on the radio. How ironic; this song that once spoke so much of their love now spoke another truth about their love

"When I'm away from you all I do is hurt

I think about you constantly

But you're always with me deep inside

I can feel you when I close my eyes

We are connected at the heart

Nothing on earth can keep the two of us apart

Time has no meaning

Distance has no power

It's never too late

No matter how long

We're never that far

We are connected at the heart"

As these words repeated in Lois' head all she could think of was that terrible night a week ago. Lois had had a horrible feeling that something terrible was going to happen, but she never knew how bad it would be. That night when she came home from work, Zara was waiting for her. "Clark is dead," she whispered "He died last week trying to free prisoners from Lord Nor."

Zara's words shattered Lois' world. "There must be a mistake, Zara, he's Superman — NOTHING can kill him - NOTHING!" Lois shouted back as tears started to roll down her face.

"Lois, we brought him here — that was his wish. He wanted his body and soul to be on Earth, to be near you."

"NOOOOOOO, he can't be gone. There was so much that we had planned to do. He just can't go and LEAVE me"

"Lois, he wanted you to have this." Zara said in a soft whisper, handing Lois a letter.

Lois took the letter which Zara handed her. Upon opening it, she found not only his letter but his wedding band also.

My Dearest Lois,

I have a terrible feeling that I will never get to see you again. I want you to know that you are my heart, my soul, my inspiration. You are my everything. You gave me so much; a chance to be a friend, a lover and, finally, your husband. I am sorry for all the pain that I have caused you. I never wanted to leave you but I can't let Krypton die twice.

Thank you for making me feel "normal" and giving me someplace where I fit in. I am your husband and, in my heart, I have been since I first saw you.

I love you, more than I can ever say or you can ever imagine.

"Nothing on earth can keep the two of us apart

Time has no meaning

Distance has no power

We are connected at the heart"

Lois, Goodbye

Your Loving Husband, Clark

(Back in the Present)

Lois went into the guest room to try to sleep. She found it easier to sleep in that room. There were almost no reminders of Clark there. But, even in her sleep, the words to the song just repeated over and over in her head.

"Nothing on earth can keep the two of us apart

… We're never that far

We are connected at the heart"

"Lois" a familiar voice said

"Clark? Is that you? Zara told me that you were …" her voice trailed off, afraid to say the word. Then she noticed a blinding pure white light behind her husband.

"Lois, I wanted to see you one last time." Clark said "To tell you that we will never be alone. No matter where you are or who you're with, I will be here watching over you. True love, that once in a lifetime kind of love, 'our' love will go on forever."

"Clark, I love you. Please don't go," Lois pleaded.

"And I love you, I'll always love you. I must go now but we will be together again, forever."

As he faded away, she heard him whisper the words of the song and a feeling of peace settled over her. Everthing would be alright. She would be with him, and he with her, always.

"We are connected at the heart

Nothing on earth can keep the two of us apart

Time has no meaning

Distance has no power

It's never too late

No matter how long

We're never that far

We are connected at the heart

We are connected at the heart"
