It was about 12:30 am on Saturday and Lois was surfing the web and chatting with a couple of guys. Clark had gone to a reporters' meeting that weekend. She had gotten bored because she had gone to everything that she could think of. She decided 'What the heck why don't I go to the chat room? There is no harm in chatting.' She went to the top and clicked on chat room. She entered in and just watched what people were chatting about. She finally found someone to chat with. They chatted a while. Before she knew it it was 3:30am. She had been chatting longer that she thought. She couldn't believe how fast time had gone by.

'I guess it's true. Time flies by when you're having fun,' she thought. She signed off and got dressed for bed. She had to get up early because she was supposed to meet Lucy at a restaurant at 12pm. Time passed by really fast and what seemed to Lois 30 minutes were really 7 and a half hours. She looked at the clock and it said 11:00. She jumped out of bed and into the shower. She went as fast as she could. It normally took her about 15 minutes but not today. After she got out she got dressed and headed out the door. She got in her Cherokee and drove through town. She was about 10 minutes early so she sat in the car and listened to the radio. She really wanted to be home in the bed but she had promised her sister that she would go out to eat with her. She got out and headed toward the door when all of a sudden a car came flying and couldn't stop. The car hit Lois and she fell to the ground. The driver backed up and left.

Lucy had just pulled up and saw people gathered around something in the street. She heard someone say "Oh my god, it's Lois Lane." She was so shocked she couldn't speak. She ran over to the scene. She had to push herself through the crowd. When she saw her sister lying there she grabbed her purse and got her cell phone and dialed 911. Less than 5 minutes later the ambulance was there and they took her to the hospital and ran some tests. Lucy still had her cell phone when it happened to ring. She looked at the caller ID and it said Clark Kent. She answered the phone and told him what had happened. He was in total shock. He had asked her why she had Lois' cell phone but now he knew. He told her that he was on his way to the hospital. He arrived in about 30 minutes. He ran up to Lucy and asked what the doctors had said. She said that they said that she had some bad injuries and that they were going to have to do surgery. She had called her parents and they were on their way and so were his parents. They all were shocked.

About five hours later she was still in surgery. They never said how long that it would take. Clark and his dad went down to the cafeteria to get something to eat. When they got back to the waiting room they found Perry and Jimmy sitting talking to Lucy. Clark went and sat down beside Lucy to try to calm her down. About five minutes later a doctor came out and told Lucy and Clark that Lois had been moved to a room, and that only they could go in for now. They walked really fast and finally reached her room. She was lying there staring out the window.

"Hi" Clark said.

She turned her head quickly. "Hi" she replied.

He walked over to her bed and gave her a soft kiss. "How are you feeling?" Clark asked.

"Horrible," she replied. She was hooked up to all kind of monitors so how would you expect her to feel? Clark moved and let Lucy see her.

"Hi" Lucy said

"Hi" she replied

"Thanks, Lucy" Lois said.

"For what?" Lucy asked

"For saving my life." Lois replied with a smile in her face.

"No problem," Lucy said, smiling back at her.

Lois called Clark back over and pulled him down so she could whisper. "I'm dying," Lois said, as tears started coming down her face.

"What?" Clark said in shock.

"I'm dying," she replied.

"This can't be true," Clark said.

"The doctors said I have about 3 days to live," Lois said

"Oh my god," Clark said as he put his face in his hands.

They were both crying like babies. Lucy just looked at them like they were crazy. After a while whenever they had both calmed down enough to tell Lucy the news Lois called Lucy closer to her. She knew that it was not good because she had already started crying again.

"Lucy, I'm dying. The doctors said I have about 3 days to live," Lois said

"Why?" Lucy asked

"Well, I have a very bad injury in my heart so I won't be able to live much longer," Lois said

"No, this can't be happening to me," Lucy said as she cried.

They all 3 hugged as they continued to cry. It was a very sad moment. About an hour had passed and they returned to the waiting room. They told their families the news.

They all cried so hard and loud. The doctors came and told them that they had to leave because visiting hours were over. They left and they decided to meet back at the hospital in the morning.

That night Clark couldn't bear the thought of losing Lois. He couldn't imagine his life without her. She was his other half. He couldn't live without her. He got up and went downstairs. He couldn't sleep knowing that his wonderful wife was lying in the hospital dying and there was nothing that he nor Superman could do. He sat down on the couch but then about 5 minutes later he was asleep.

He heard the phone ring so he went to get it. It was Lois. He told her that he would be there in about a half-hour. When they hung up he ran upstairs and took a shower, got dressed and headed to the hospital. When he arrived he had the hardest time finding a parking place but finally he found one. He walked into the foyer of the hospital and went to the elevator. While he was waiting for the elevator he noticed a beautiful arrangement of red, white, yellow, and pink roses with a balloon in the middle that said, "I LOVE YOU!" He knew that that was what she needed. He went quickly into the store and bought it. He was just in time for the elevator. He went straight to the 3rd floor. He went to her room and knocked on her door. Lucy answered the door. He went in and gave Lois the flowers. He leaned down to give her a sweet soft kiss.

"Thanks, sweetheart," Lois said.

"It's the least I can do," Clark said as he wiped back tears.

"I knew you could use some cheering up but nothing can cheer you up when you know that you are dying," Clark said.

Lois looked worse than she had ever looked in her whole life. She could barely talk.

"I'm going to get some breakfast. I'll be back in a few minutes," Lucy said as she grabbed her jacket.

"Okay," they said.

They talked until Lucy came back. She had gone to Burger King.

"You know in the book "Let Her Go" where that man loses his wife because of cancer?" Lois said.

"Yeah," Clark replied.

"You know he leaves her whenever he finds out that she only had a week to live. Please promise me that you will be with me until death us do part," Lois said.

"I promise. Even after you pass away I will always be in your heart and you will always be in my mind and in my heart," Clark said as he gave her a kiss.

"I will always remember you before and after I die," Lois said.

"That was so sweet," Lucy said.

"You really love each other a lot don't you?" Lucy asked

"Oh yeah," they said.

"Will you stay with me tonight?" Lois asked Clark

"Of course," Clark said.

"Thanks a lot," Lois said

"I have to go because I have an interview in the morning. I'll see you after the interview," Lucy said. She walked over to Lois and gave her a hug and kiss before she left. She also gave Clark a hug. Lois and Clark sat and talked about some things. They heard a knock at the door. Clark got up and answered it. It was his and her parents, Perry and Jimmy. They came in and gave Lois a hug and a kiss. They all sat there and talked until visiting hours were over. Clark went and sat next to Lois on her bed after everyone left. It was getting really late and they were both really tired. He leaned down and gave Lois a long and passionate kiss. "I love you a lot, Lois," Clark said.

"I love you a lot too, Clark," Lois said.

He sat there with her until she fell asleep. He had promised her before she went to sleep that he wouldn't leave her side. She had gone into a deep sleep so he went and sat in the recliner. He slept pretty well but he would have rather slept in a bed but he had said he would stay with Lois.

The next morning when he woke up he noticed that she was still asleep so he just went and sat next to her like he was before she went to sleep. He stared at her beautiful face but he suddenly realized he didn't feel her breathing. He listened closer and he heard nothing. He ran to find a doctor or a nurse. He found a doctor and took him to Lois' room. The doctor took her off all the monitors and called for another doctor to help roll her down the hall. They took her to a place where they take people who die in the hospital to pronounce her dead. Clark ran to the nearest phone and called Lucy, his parents, Lois' parents, Jimmy and Perry and told them what had happened. He went back into her room and cried. All of them had arrived in less than an hour. They all were crying which didn't make it any easier. It had all come down to the day that Lois and Clark had dreaded the most. Now they would all be changed forever.

***

This is a song that Clark wrote Lois after he found out she was dying.

*And I'll never love the way I loved you.

And I'll never kiss the way that I kissed you.

And I'll never touch the way that I touched you.

I did it all for you.

And I'll never love that way again.*

We all know that Lois and Clark loved each other more than they want to admit. This tragedy proves just how much they love and need each other. Even though they may not be together in reality but they will always be together in their minds and their hearts. Lois and Clark will go on forever.

THE END

Disclaimer: I didn't write this song. I got it off Joey McIntyre's CD Stay the Same.
