Summary: This is a poem that features a different look at Superman's life. The poem was inspired by Five For Fighting's Superman song.

This poem came as an inspiration to me after I had heard the song Superman by Five For Fighting. The song gave a different look at the life of Superman, and I really liked the different point of view. So this poem is what came out of hearing that song. I hope you enjoy it.

As usual, all rules apply. The characters aren't mine, blah blah blah.

Since this is my first time submitting anything here (and hopefully I'll be submitting a story of mine within the near future) any comments are very much appreciated at the address next to my name. Thank you!!

***

You think I'm invulnerable,
but it only goes skin deep.
My thoughts and emotions are there,
but they're oblivious to you.

You don't know me.
You see my big S and red cape
and assume I am owned by the market.
You think crime fighting and charity
are my only skills.

You don't know me.
If I disappear for a while,
you moan and complain.
If I need a break from the stress,
you wouldn't understand.

You don't know me.
I am useful only when
you're in need of help.
You take for granted the fact that I
volunteered to help.

You don't know me.
You expect me to answer questions
about planet Krypton.
The truth is, I'm just as lost as you are,
but why should you care?

You don't know me.
I saved the whole world
because I care about all of you,
yet you criticize me when
I'm not able to rescue one person in time.

You don't know me.
But despite all of your ignorance,
I will continue to save you.
To help and care for everyone.
Why?

Because you don't know me.

THE END
